Substance Abuse among University Students: Assessing Prevalence, Risk and Preventive Measures

Objectives: This research was undertaken to determine the prevalence and beliefs about drug abuse among university students in Jordan recommend certain preventive measures for problem of addiction.
 Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional online survey conducted April 2021 included 679 from private public universities Jordan. Students were asked fill out study through social media (Facebook WhatsApp).
 Results: The a whereby two third them females more than half studying medical health departments. It found that 7.1% used drugs their life including illicit drugs, alcohol cigarettes. Also, addictive started using at mean age 18 years old ± 3.9. Importantly, around succeeded quit 20.8% reported not trying quit, while 33.3% tried but could quit. In addition, findings this revealed peer pressure (n= 657, 96.8%), lack religious commitment 654, 96.3%), most motivational factors abuse. Finally, regression analysis showed female gender (OR= 0.094, p-value <0.001), 0.496, p-value= 0.042) considered protective against substance abuse.
